Action research proposals related to management of the classroom, the school, or the district should be posted here.

  1. I am researching the positive effects of inclusion for high functioning developmental students in the general ed classroom. Much of the success of the student lies within the classroom management and supports the teachers will provide. I think my action research belongs in this category.

  2. I believe that my wondering belongs in this catagory because it's through management that we can make the recess time a more pleasant one for all, specially the students. I would want to find out if recess time is a time that can be enjoyed and one that can be educational. Would this benefit the students?

  3. My action research plan is what are the benefits for students and staff to switching to a bell schedule instead of our current flexible schedule?

  4. My action research plan is to determine the best way for the district/teachers to communicate with parents.

I am not really sure if this falls under management or Other, but I chose management.

  5. I am researching if and how the implementation of a campus-wide Positive Behavior Intervention System affects the methods elementary teachers use regarding student discipline in their classrooms. We are also wanting to determine if the implementation of this system will increase the positive behavior of students in all areas of the school, as well as the classroom.

  6. I am performing my action research project on revising the tardy policy at our school. Up until now it has been a haphazard compilation of everyone doing their own thing. I think a standard policy that everyone knows and follows will improve student performance and behavior. The big challenge I see will be to get established teachers to follow the new policy instead of doing things the way they always have.

  7. I am working on Improving the Functinal Academic teachers understanding and follow through of the development of a PLAAFP from the FIE and other assessments to the development of the IEP so that all students needs are assessed and addressed. I developed a data baseline speadsheet to keep track of the improvement from year to year for all the FAC teachers in the district across all grade levels as well. I also developed an assesment that I gave prior to the training and after as well. It was very surprising on how very few teacher passed the test prior to instruction.

  8. What professional developments are needed and available to The Cambridge School employees to develop and ensure collaboration as well as student and professional achievement and success?

The reason I chose this section to enter my Action research plan is because part of the programming deals with behavioral placement program that incorporates PBIS and Classroom behavior management. The professional development needs will address these concerns and work in conjunction with PBIS.

  9. I chose this section because my research is on the effective motivational techniques for improved student behavior. This in many ways has to do with the management by the teacher in the classroom. Though my study will focus wit just the 4th grade students right now, the hope is to incorporate these strategies campus wide.

  10. Action Research Question: Based upon our implementation the Positive Behavior Support system (PBS) what are the positive and negative aspects of our students receiving rewards for their demonstration of positive behavior?

Rationale: As a result of my action research project, I believe that our campus teachers will gain more insight into how to properly use the PBS system within their classroom and to promote positive behavior based upon internal believes and not because of the pursuit of rewards. As well, our campus students will be able to learn the proper behavior that is expected of them and to maintain that level of behavior in school. Also, our campus as a whole will learn how to build a positive behavior culture that rewards students for their efforts, but also holds students accountable to achieve an acceptable level of behavior that all students are expected to demonstrate.

  12. My Action Research Plan Goals

To learn how “Positive Behavior Supports” can be used on my campus as a tool to teach students appropriate behavior, as opposed to providing punishment as a negative consequence

To learn what impact the use of ‘Positive Behavior Supports’ strategies have on student behavior and the number of DAEP discipline referrals for all students.

To learn what impact the use ‘Positive Behavior Supports’ strategies have on student behavior and the number of DAEP discipline referrals for African American students.

  13. My action research project is concerning the usage and necessity of an advisory/study hall period on our campus.

  14. My action research topic is to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the district mentor meetings. The action research will address improving or implementing norms, protocols, and processes.

  15. My action research topic is to create a school wide cafeteria management plan during lunch and school wide gatherings. Our campus does not have the funding to purchase management plans such as PBIS so my site supervisor is very supportive of creating a plan. My campus has Kindergarten through fourth grade students. I will collect data by observation, surveys and articles. Once the data is collected I will collaborate with my supervisor and we will present it to the campus. This will allow for feedback and hopefully we will be able to create a customized plan that will benefit our students short and long term.

  16. I chose to put this in management because it will affect programming and scheduling outcomes.

My action research question is: Is student achievement higher for students that receive specialized support within the classroom? What is the impact for students when they are pulled out of the classroom for specialized instruction? I am researching push-in programs vs. pullout programs. This is a valid inquiry for our campus as we are transitioning into a push-in program with Title I reading services being addressed in the classroom with teacher support. Some of our staff is hesitant to have another teacher co-teaching reading, so hopefully with my research I can find statistics and research to show that it is in the student’s best interest to receive support within the classroom. My goal is to find the most effective model of Title I services for our students. I plan on examining teaching patterns, various teaching models, and data to find the most effective model of reading instruction to share with my campus.

  17. My action research deals with finding classroom management plans to aid teachers in an effort to decrease the number of discipline referrals.

  18. In past years on our campus a block schedule has been utilized. This year, however, we have switched to a modified block schedule with 8 classes in which Monday and Wednesday are “A” days, Tuesday and Thursday are “B” days, and all classes meet on Fridays. Through discussions with the Assistant Superintendent, it has been stated that at the end of this year we will decide whether to continue with the modified block schedule or change to a traditional schedule with 7 classes a day.

The research will focus on what the current level of satisfaction is with the implementation of our new modified block schedule, and how it is effecting instruction and student achievement, and also how teachers feel about moving to a traditional schedule.
In order to collect data I will be surveying teachers and students. I will disseminate benchmark and Taks data, and I will also research various schedules and their effects and effectiveness.

  19. Wondering:
What are the most common types of referrals written, what time of day are they written and where are the infractions occuring?

I will use this data to develop intervention strategies to alleviate these disruptions.

  21. What strategies can teachers utilize in their classrooms in order to set a tone and a focus at the beginning of class, fully engage students throughout the duration of the lesson and encourage students to reflect on what they have learned at the conclusion of the lesson? How can I expose teachers to the proper amount of staff development to effectively prepare them for the new strategies they will use in the classroom?
