Work-Based Learning Programs
I am in the "Use of Technology in Schools" blog. My topic is "1:1 Student Laptop Initiative". So far, no one else has joined the blog and I do not see another topic which matches mine. Please advise.
My topic is: Are elementary students receiving adequate keyboarding instruction in order to master the Technology Applications TEKS for keyboarding?
Honestly, no. They need to begin learning in 4-5th grade, so that when they get to JH, they have the keyboard mastered so they can begin working with software that is going to dictate their interaction with technology from that point forward...not just play "educational games"
My topic is: What percentage of teachers are utilizing technology in the classroom, how they are using it, and how often? If teachers are not using it, I want to discover why and how those reluctant teachers can be encouraged to utilize technology more frequently in the classroom.
How did this research go?
Hi! is it possible to use the title for another research?
Action Research Question: How can incorporating inquiry based learning (IBL) into the social studies curriculum help to support positive student attitudes, enhance student participation, and improve student achievement in science?http://lnamboree.blogspot.com
My topic is : What types of support help do new teachers need to succeed and how can I best help an out-of-field teacher succeed?
Dear Yalila, I really like your topic. This is an excellent AR topic. I say this because I am exactly that an out-of-field teacher. Anyway I just noticed the date that this was posted. I will comment how challenging it has been not having anybody to turn to for advice and support. I pray ever day that some one will find me and hire me. The kids no how good a teacher I am. I just need a principal and district to recognize my love of teaching. Thank you anyway.
My topic is: What is the most effective early intervention techniques and progress monitoring strategies.
My topic: In what ways can I, as principal, best facilitate teacher professional development to aid in their integration of Web 2.0 Technology Tools in the classroom?
How did this action research paper go?
Why are some technology assets not being utilized at my campus and what can I do to better facilitate their use?
My topic: In what ways can our primary school develop and implement an anti-bullying program that promotes positive pro-social behavior while decreasing incidences of bullying?
My action research project is on the use of technology to make the social studies classroom more engaging and relevant. Please review my blog at http://lovetolearn-gypsiegirl.blogspot.com/
My topic is If TAKS and EOC are assessing the same objectives, what is the cause of the discrepancy in scores? How can we address this instructionally?
My topic of research is regarding the First Moves Chess program. My school started this program about 3 years ago with 2nd and 3rd. This year we will teach it all the way through fifth. The research I want to dive into is, since this is a district expectation, how are we reaching our struggling students. Many times the same kids struggle in all content areas. This also proves true with chess. We began teaching chess to build social skills and higher level thinking. Are we truly reaching "ALL" kids? If not, how do we need to differentiate to accommodate them all?
My action research topic addresses a campus improvement goal of increasing minority enrollment in more rigorous classes with the ultimate goal of these students choosing the more rigorous graduation plan and then experiencing greater post-high school educational opportunity and success.
My topic, Ensure the use of technology in the classroom enhances the curriculum and promotes higher-level thinking. My goal is to pilot iPod touches in three of my ELA/Reading classes this upcoming school year and monitor how the devices enhance the curriculum and analyze if and how much the promote higher-level thinking.
My research question is "As the department chair, how can I facilitate the creation of a cohesive and collaborative biology team that makes data driven decisions?"
My focus for the action research proposal is on all the effects of participation in extracurricular activities on students' success academically.
I plan to focus on ways our school can use Cogat scores. So far Cogat scores are used to identify GT students. However, can we use them to help students who score low on the test? What interventions are necessary? My blog is http://actionresearchdolores.blogspot.com/I have my old action research plan, but I will post a new one soon.
My project will involve using a technology wiki to communicate with my high school learning community in regards to how to use and share examples of different types of technology tools (ie. Web 2.0 tools and websites). How will this help in the classroom? How can this then be used for personal and future use by each of these participants?
My action research is on examining the effectiveness of educating students with special needs in inclusion classrooms through collaborative teaching and differentiated instruction.
Please will you shed more light on this topic.it's an interesting one
My action research topic and questions:All classroom teachers will work on the creation of a classroom web page. Teachers will have their web pages live by the end of the school year. Classroom pages will enhance parent/teacher/student communication as well as improve academic achievement in the area of Mathematics. Through surveys, parent conferences, and test data, we have found that parent communication and math scores are the two areas in need of improvement. Campus and teacher websites can help target both of these areas. Administrative and teachers sites will provide a more transparent look into school happenings.Websites that have links to math sites, podcasts, and vodcasts will allow parent to help their students at home. The following questions will be investigated:What part does a classroom website play in regards to communication with parents? How are parents using the campus website, and how is it affecting communication? What are students mainly using the campus or teacher website for, and has it improved communication with campus staff? How is the classroom website helping improve academic achievement?
I think that this was an excellent topic. I am a school counselor and I am working on creating a website to communicate and assist parents with student's social skills. Would you mind sharing your research with me?

My action research is a little challenging and is very difficult to match up with others for cooperative learning and ideas. I am conducting action research over developing, implementing and maintaining an employee wellness program in my current elementary school. Thank you!Sammi
NCLB requires "Technology Literate Students, Technology Literate Teachers, and Technology integrated across the curriculum. To measure our progress toward the goal of "Technology Literate Students," NCLB required implementing a Technology Proficiency Assessment for 8th grade students and reporting the results through the STaR Chart. For three years my district has reported embarrassing statistics about the technology proficiency of our 8th grade students. The low scores by our 8th graders not only indicates they lack technology skills, but also reflects our teachers lack those skills and/or are not truly integrating technology into the curriculum. These concerns led to the development of the question my action research will address: "Will the implementation of TechCONNECT (Technology Applications 6-8th grade curriculum) and Atomic Learning (online technology training service) improve student performance on the 8th grade Technology Proficiency Assessment and increase teacher proficiency levels in the key areas of Teaching and Learning and Educator Preparation on the STaR Chart?"
My action research plan involves creating a technology rich classroom and comparing it to the traditional classroom to verify higher academic achievement through the use of technology both with hardware (document cameras, MOBIS,Classroom Performance system, etc.) and Web 2.0 tools.
My action reseach is based on the effectiveness of positive motivation or intervention with At Risk students. My population is 85 9th grade repeaters, most of whom are also Economically Disadvantaged. This is the first year we will be located in a SWAS which is adjacent to the main campus. The scope of the "rewards" (I know this is no longer a politically correct word; but, these children have, for the most part, never been granted special considerations)will range from the minimal such as free dress day to major field trips. The discipline in this environment is very structured; so, this is also be a means of temporing that rigidity while developing their internal desire to succeed. I will also be concentrating on parental involvement. These parents, by now, have had pratically nothing but negative contact from the school. Many are looking for ways to help their children. The third type of positive intervention will be the involvement of the teachers on a personal level. We are being allowed to return to the Homeroom first schedule that many of the lower grades use. This will allow teachers personal time with a small group of students each morning. The evaluation will be based on the comparison between the previous year's attendance, disciplinary records, and TAKS scores and this year's for the same students. The ultimate goal is to help foster their desire to stay in school and eventually graduate with their peers.Since this is the first year of this program, I would welcome any and all suggestions. I have already received several, such as music and "sock day." Although these students are High School, they seem to respond on a variety of levels. I would also appreciate some warning as to the pitfalls I may encounter.Thank you,SS
How did your research go??? Can you share some of the techniques you used to frame the questionnaires....
My action research plan is, "The purpose of this action research plan is to determine the effectiveness of Interactive whiteboards on student achievement."

My action research topic is, "Why parents choose charter schools vs public schools?"
I am a counselor as well as a parent whose children attend a charter school if you are looking for anyone's brain to pick.
My Action Research Question is --Can 4th and 5th grade students demonstrate a thorough understanding of key concepts in core subject areas using digital photography both still and video?
My research topic involves creating a curriculum guide for the use of all the new technology tools now available at my school. Many teachers do not use the new tools because they do not know how to integrate them into daily lessons. My goal is to create binders for all teachers to use throughout the school year to assist in using the new tools. I will spend this school year creating and researching for the binders, and I will present them in the fall of 2011. More can be found on my blog at: http://ashleydietz.blogspot.com/
My research topic is: How can I create a classroom that supports decreasing discipline issues while increasing positive behavior? After creating a consistent discipline plan, how will it impact all grade levels through the entire campus and will all teachers use it consistently?
My research topic is: Is adding a "Math Lab", in addition to Algebra 1, to freshmen students who failed the eighth grade Math TAKS beneficial to these students or is it Mathematics overload?
My wonderings are based on the following questions:How will the implementation of interactive learning technology (Promethean Activ Classroom) assist in increasing teacher confidence in using technology and integrating technology into their curriculum/classroom? Will the use of this technology play a role increasing the achievement level on the Texas Teacher Star Chart for teachers at ESE?
My action research plan is focused on equipping students with higher order thinking skills, including critical thinking and inquiry. The plan includes a process of streamlining staff development in higher order thinking strategies and instruction. The plan also contains a data analysis component geared towards increasing student evidence of critical thinking and inquiry.
My action research project focuses on how administrators can be better prepared for the state-mandated Safe and Secure Schools audits that occur every three years.Though safety is considered a primary focus of public schools, many administrators are unaware of what the government entities place under the umbrella of "safety" and "security". This lack of knowledge skews the focus of the leaders and may leave campuses at risk.
My action research inquiry is "How has the software program School Objects: Aware assisted you as a teacher? This is a new program that puts individual student testing data available to all teachers for the purpose of making data-based decisions for instruction.
Action Research Inquiry Research Question:What happens to struggling students when they are pulled for a small group in the classroom setting verses an out of classroom pull out setting?
The purpose of my proposed action research is to determine if lengthening the school day in order to increase classroom instruction time is beneficial to the students or does is cause early student burn-out.
My action research project is...How can pre-k teachers use technogy more effectively. I want internet and computer use to be more meaningful.
My action research plan is already in motion within my school and district that I am joining. Its a plan to help move ELL middle school students from classes that do not speak English into all inclusive classes (core areas like Science) to help and assist them understand the content on a deeper level with full submersion with proper resources and to build their test taking skills to help raise TAKS scores for this particular sub pop which makes up the majority of the school and district.
My action research project is to determine the feasibility of incorporating Web 2.0 technologies into the lecture portion of technical programs. How can instructors incorporate Web 2.0 into their delivery methods to encourage greater student participation during the lecture portion?http://actionineducation.blogspot.com
My action research project: Will enabling the use of a public calendar for scheduling a class set of laptops increase a teacher's use of technology application projects within that classroom.
My action research project is as follows:Through the collaboration with various supervisors across the district and on my campus via emails and in person and over the phone, I decided to do action research on "adapting our teaching to meet the needs of today’s student with diversified needs of students".An operational definition of my target population: Third grade level teacher team of 3 to 4 teachers.I selected my sample through suggestions made by my campus site supervisor, special education specialists, and the district special education director. This need is based on our 2010 SBDM committee plan and from specific needs outlined in my internship plan.I will conduct my research by applying information and skills developed in EDLD 5311, involving my intern plan, and the information and proficiency gained in EDLD 5301 Action Research. I will create a comprehensive campus improvement action plan which will allow me to specifically target the selected action research project on understanding allowable accommodations in the classroom and on state testing. The significance of this study will be to train or allow the third grade team to know the specifics of the accommodations allowed in the classroom and on state testing to ensure equal access of special education students to the general curriculum and decrease the general education teacher’s frustration in planning and implementing these accommodations.
Action Research:How will the implementation of a sheltered instruction program affect the language comprehension of ELL students?
Im interested in your AR can you share something about it? You can contact me in this email firstname.lastname@example.org
ARPMy project is to determine the if teacher absenteeism effects student performance and what incentives can we use to keep teaches in class.
My project is to find out if healthy food choice during school meals will positively affect energy levels for students and teachers during the school day.
My action research project focuses on the impact of socioeconomic status on student learning and how campus-to-campus collaboration can assist campuses with lower socioeconomic statuses.
Robyn Hesse's Action Research -Pearson's Correlation Coefficient.I am going to do research on the use of a rubric developed by the University Institutional Effectiveness Committee. My research consists of determining if four independent reviewers can successfully score assessment reports with six dimensions with a variation of scores less than 1.0. Each of the four reviewers will review 50 reports, in which 20 of them will be scored by all four scorers. We will compare the correlations of the twenty report scores and determine the consistency of scoring with the rubric. The twenty reports that are reviewed by all, are unknown to everyone, therefore all participants are blind to the reports that will be compared.
My action research plan is going to be: What is the best way to teach a bilingual student? Full emergement into English or to teach in their first language until they have mastered all skills
Action Research Topics:I would like to look at how PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention and Support) Systems have a positive affect on school climate/culture. Purpose: I want to specifically investigate if it ultimately reduces discipline referrals over time; if it increases student engagement; if it improves teacher morale; if it increases teacher communication with parents; and finally if it contributes to an overall perception of increased school safety by all stakeholders. I plan on collecting data from a variety of resources that include but are not limited to interviews, surveys, discipline referrals, etc.Significance: I believe the significance of this study is that it will benefit the administrators and teachers of the campus in knowing areas of success and areas that need more attention when it comes to routines or practices with in the PBIS Systems. It will benefit the students in their increased awareness of why such structures are important and the relation of such systems to creating a safer, more predictable, and explicit environment that supports consistant expectations campus wide. It will also benefit the parents in their awareness of the efforts/systems within the school that support an equitable, safe, positive, and supportive environment for the children to be in all day, every day.
Action Research Question:In what ways can De Zavala Elementary incorporate a vertical writing plan that builds upon the language arts TEKS to ensure that each grade level shares the same best practices, strategies and common vocabulary?
Thoughts designed to improve fluency on my inquiry project... 1. Examining the work: Setting the Foundation – I have determined to use an inquiry in order to provide a comprehensive four-year plan to assist students entering Rockwall High School (and other RISD students) who want to pursue a Performing Arts career. This plan should help not only the students who have this particular educational goal, but also should help our district to provide an exceptional curriculum in our Fine and Performing Arts Department. 2. Analyzing data – I will gather data from Texas colleges (and Oklahoma City University), from research sources like TMEA and Cedfa, from interviews with currently performing artists, and from brainstorming sessions with the RHS Performing Arts staff, counselors, and administrators. With the data, my colleagues and I will be able to determine our best path as we tweak our curriculum and make recommendations for our students to assist them in meeting their education goals.3. Developing deeper understanding – I’m very excited to be able to convene the Performance Arts Staff, Counselors, and Principals into a focus group. These are all mature, seasoned professionals who have much to offer. Together we should be able to devise exceptional recommendations for our students.4. Engaging in Self-Reflection – One topic of reflection I will undertake will be to maintain awareness that the goal is to benefit the students, not to impose my own ideas and preferences. I will continue to reflect upon the idea of servant leadership, the goal of proactive communication, and to receive new ideas as possible evidence of positive growth rather than as a threat to what has always been perceived as “the best”.5. Exploring Programmatic Patterns – Before beginning to make interview calls, I will carefully plan the questions I want to ask, and will leave time in each interview to allow the person being interviewed to suggest ideas I haven’t thought to include. Before convening the focus group I will distribute the compiled notes and the list of interview questions so these professionals will have the opportunity to reflect on the topics before we begin to work together.6. Determining direction – The focus group will be a very strong ensemble to evaluate the research data and formulate appropriate responses. This team will work collaboratively both within the meetings and in small groups between meetings.7. Taking action for school improvement – I will use the action research template to help me maintain good organization and a timeline for action.Sustaining improvement – One of my own goals is to continue to re-assess on a regular basis even after this particular project reaches its original conclusion. Just as curriculum should be regularly revisited, so also should the best practices for preparing our students for their lifework be continuously examined and improved.
Action Research Topic:How are teachers utilizing technology resources on my campus. I want to use qualitative and quantitative data to prove that we need additional technological resources to aid teachers in instruction.
Action Research Goals:How will the 5th grade teachers integrate the usage of an ipad in their classroom? and What is the effectiveness of this new technology on student achievement?
My research project will focus on the effectiveness of an online learning environment in recovering lost credit. I just joined this blog and would love to hear how everyone, who already has their research underway, is doing with it.
My research project is on PBS for my campus. Would love to hear from anyone that has a great PBS plan already working well.
My Action Research Project is based on the idea that when students are involved in extra-curricular activities such as athletics, music, arts, etc., they are more inclined to be motivated to maintain an acceptable academic performance.
The topic I will investigate through action research is that of students using their personal communication device for English class novel reading assignments and the effect it will have on their grade(s).
Our teachers have access to technology that they are not using. Why aren't they using it and how do I encourage them to utilize what's right in front of them?
: What effect does deconstructing standards have on student performance in middle school science? The rationale for this question comes from the current initiative on my campus. I am fortunate enough to work for a district with a strong curriculum department. This department deconstructs the state standards (TEKS) and sends them out in the form of UBD’s (Understanding by Design.) Teachers in turn review the information and focus primarily on the activities. Since teachers do not have to delve into the standards, many of these activities created or used, by the teachers, do not match up with the depth and rigor of the state standards. Our initiative is to train teachers to deconstruct the standards for themselves. This will lead to activities that match the depth and rigor the TEKS require. Assessments will also begin to mirror the level of understanding written in the standard. My goal is to determine the effectiveness of teachers understanding the state standards, which will lead to the development of focused activities and assessments. This is turn should lead to better student performance
This is a terrific topic for research! UBD is an initiative that may make significant differences to improve student and staff performance. Studying what makes it work will open opportunities for other campuses. Keep us posted!Dr. Jenkins, Depatment chairman

Ive been in the field of teaching for 17 years, when i tranferred to public school i have observed that there are pupils who repeat their respective levels multiple times, id like to work on with this especially in the primary levels The tittle i have in mind is factors that causes pupil-repeaters in primary level.. Any suggestion is highly appreciated
As i see it after determining the causes i can produce another action research, intervention comes next..the more the child repeats, there will be psychologica effectsl ...the reason why, i may not irradicate at least ill be able to help in minimizing it
I am teaching Mathematics grade 5 and 6 and I found out that most of the pupils were not able to master the basic skills in math and I want to help them by finding the most effective intervention for them, Any suggestions for the title and interventions are highly appreciated
hi..its really helpful for me i got plenty of ideas about conducting action research...if some more activities are to conduct research u share ..thank u
