My action research is based on reducing the number of students who return to DAEP, with a focus on African American males. My blog is at http://lalamarclass.blogspot.com/
I am not sure if this fits under this heading or the one broadly termed 'Discipline' so I put it under both to make sure I connect with my team.
My research is inolving parents and how that involvement correlates to the number of discipline referrals and also how the degree of parental involvement correlates to students achievement (specifically the state assessment) and specifically among the African American subgroup where we have the highest number of discipline referrals and the lowest scores on the TAKS.
I am working on reducing student tardiness. We will be instituting a new program on our campus to handle student tardiness in a positive manner. Our goal is to reduce tardies by 90% and change the culture on our campus. I will be looking at the effectiveness of the program and it's effects on our campus. We will also assess the climate change as the year goes on. Implementation will begin as soon as school starts. Planning started in June. Teachersl be trained prior to the beginning of school. Training will include a dry run and lesson plans to be presented to the students in all classes for the first week of school. Lessons will address getting to class on time as well as other character issues.
My action research topic will be how to decrease absentee rates in Pre-k and stress to parents how important attendance is in Pre-k. I believe this topic falls under individual student(s) since it specifies a certain grade level.
My research is "STUDENT, TEACHER AND PARENT INPUT TO CREATE CHANGE," however the changes I am looking at are discipline, tardys, and absenteeism to produce increased learning in an improved environment and campus climate. The input collected from teachers, students and parents will direct the avenue(s) of action. My blog URL is: jacquisactionresearch.blogspot.com/
My action research plan is how we can increase bilingual prekindergarten student performance in terms of attendance, discipline and parent involvement. This study is attain to build a strong foundation in early grades to continue and reflect it on later grades.
Anyone looking at decreasing truancies and tardies in secondary students should investigate the National Archery in the Schools Program. They have solid evidence that their program reduces truancies and tardies and motivates students who were uninvolved and uncommitted at school.
My Action Research Project will look at the effects of physical activity in reducing the number of discipline referrals in the DAEP setting. My blog is timothylandrum.blogspot.com
